Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights, written by the famous H.G. Bissinger, is an inspirational story to all. Novels that draw my attention are ones that show true ambitions and everyone trying together to achieve those dreams. In life, nothing is ever handed to you whether it be sports or school. Bissinger did an excellent job of making that point true. Not once was there any slack or laziness because they knew that their Coach was about pushing everyone to their fullest amount of effort. Through the book, he began to love these guys as if they were his own. Never knowing how attached Coach was going to be, he began to believe in them. From the team where not a lot of them had much in life, football was their world. Once they saw that their Coach believed in them, nothing could stop them now. Having something like faith in life can get people so much more farther and that is why I believe that this novel is perfect for anyone who has aspirations of their own.

Throughout Friday Night Lights, the readers become attached to the characters, especially the quarterback. He was paralyzed from the waist down at the beginning of the season. Becoming so close with the book, tears filled in your eyes as you are imagining this guy who is playing his senior year of football, looking forward to his dreams of becoming a phenomenal player, and then having them crushed because of a hard hit. This is an obstacle in life that you overcome, but once it happens, it feels like life is taken away from you. That is how he felt. Bissinger made this true. He made you feel through his emotions, his triumphs, but most importantly, he led to through his life and how he always was a positive role model to all of the guys on the team. Think of everyone on your team. You know that one person that everyone looks up to? Or run to because they make you feel better? Well this is him. And his way of showing it is just mind blowing.

Why did you feel that it was important to write this?

I would ask this because I feel like it was such a great thing for him to write the creative and inspiring novel because a lot of people need that extra little push in life to get them through the game.

Have you ever been through an experience like this hopeful quarterback?

I would ask Bissinger this because as I read the story, I felt like I knew each character as if I was their friend. Only in a few books that I have read was it like that, but more so on this book because I could relate.

Last, were you a role model at one point in your life?

I feel like it is extremely important to have a role model in your life, or someone that you look up to because it sets a goal. In life, more times then not, you have a goal that you want to achieve. Friday Night Lights is the most obvious and perfect example.

This story was a phenomenal example of leadership, adversity, but most importantly, heart. Every athlete knows that having these three things are the keys to a successful carrer. Always having your head up and knowing where your life is going was pin pointed throughout this novel in the up most respected way. I would recommend this to anyone who needs that extra shove in their life. It will help tremendously.

Hoot- Carl Hiaasen

The book Hoot is a non fiction book. I chose this book because I heard that this book was good book about Miami, Florida and the Everglades. I really did like this book. It really caught me in the begining with its misterious parts and it kinda left you hanging at first but later on the book explained everything. I kinda like books that do that, especially this one.

This book is about a three group of kids who try and save Burow Owls from the building of Mother Paulas Pancake House. It starts out with the new kid (Roy) moving from the high mountains of Montana, who spots a kid running barefoot (Mullet Finger), which seemed like he was running from something or toward something. Roy really needed to find out why he was running. Roy runs into a blonde girl named Betreise who tells Roy to stay away from the running boy.

Eventually, Roy figures out why he was running. Later on in the story Mullet Fingers, Roy, and Betriese notice that there are owls at the construction site of Mother Paulas. Roy and the gang try and do anything they can to stop the building of Mother Paulas from spray painting the patrol car black, putting aligators in the Porta Potties, stealing the seats off the bullzdozer and much much more. In the end the three of them stop the building of Mother Paulas and turns the construction site into a zoo for the owls.

The title of the book really matches the story. The book is about owls so the name should most certainly be.

If i had to ask the author three questions they would have to be...

1. Why did you pick the act of saving owls when you could've chosen agriculture of another animal from Miami?

2. What made you think of the story line for this book?

3. Did you grow up in Miami, that made you think of putting the setting in Miami, Florida?

Loveless 8 By Hannah Sanders

Loveless is about a 12 year old boy named Ritsuka who’s personality from when he was born to age 10 was erased from his body a different personality came in known as the “current Ritsuka”. When he was at age ten a traumatic event happened in his life of which will change his life forever, his brother was murdered. After his brother was dead; Ritsuka switched personalities; and his mother got worse with her verbal and physical abuse. She claims that she wants both of her children back that they have both died. But poor Ritsuka without his brother unfortunately no one will stop his mother from beating him. Ritsuka doesn’t blame her though; he thinks it’s his “sin” that he switched personalities and should pay the punishment. He just switched schools and met a girl name Yuiko, they became friends but not very close ones. One day while Ritsuka was at school someone waited outside for him. Soubi. He came to tell Ritsuka of this whole other side of reality. But soon Ritsuka figures out Soubi were Seimei’s fighter unit and he was to battle unknown opponents. He was bewildered with this new side of his life. What is to come upon Ritsuka, what will he do once he finds his brother’s will? Read Loveless Vol. 1 to find out.
I’m doing my blog and playlist on the 8th book in the Loveless series and in this book Ritsuka and Soubi are at the Seven Voices Academy having a word battle against Seimei’s fighter unit. In book 7 you find out that Seimei is actually alive and in the beginning of the 8th he says what he did, murdered another person to take his place so everyone thought he was dead. Then the two brothers met like fate, they talked and Seimei questioned Ritsuka’s love and Ritsuka questioned Seimei’s well being. Seimei made an escape and used Soubi to do so, Soubi betrayed Ritsuka in the end for letting Seimei escape but Ritsuka forgave him. Then that new years eve they walked under the stars and talked about udon noodles.

Every fighter unit has one sacrifice; they are destined to be together for life. They fight side by side, sacrifice taking the attack from the opposing side and the fighter units to battle in a fight of spells. They fight until the sacrifice is completely bound and can’t move from so much pain. Then they go about their separate lives.
3 Questions

1. How long did it take you to figure out the story of Loveless?
I'm curious because some manga writers it takes years just figuring out the story then another year or so figuring out the names and what each character looks like and their personality traits.
2. How long does it usually take you to complete one manga?
I've noticed that this author takes about 3-8 months creating one manga. But I want to know exactly.
3. Do you enjoy your job?
I want to become a manga artist and story writer some day. I enjoy drawing manga very much and am working on two stories of my own.

Loveless 8 Soundtrack

Chapter. 9- Where I stood by Missy Higgins- I chose this song because in this chapter, Soubi didn’t know who he was, he was a blank fighter unit. He could be given to anyone just to use for a temporary replacement. “I don’t know who I am, who I am. All I know is that I should” He thought that the world was “black and white” either a fighter unit or a sacrifice not a blank fighter. He thought he was unloved like he didn’t belong to anyone.

Chapter. 10 Your love is a lie By Simple Plan- Soubi felt like no one loved him, truth is that no one did. Not his sensei or his sacrifice Seimei. But he doesn’t find that out until he talked to Seimei, “your love is just a lie” he realized that his sensei gave him away, his love was a lie.

Chapter 11 scars by papa roach- Ritsu-sensei got gouged in the eyes by Seimei and let his guard down. A line from the song, “I’m pissed cause you came around Why don’t you just go home cause you can’t hold all your pain and I can’t help you fix yourself” That’s basically what Ritsu was saying but Seimei couldn’t hold his rage so he gouged Ritsu’s eyes.

Chapter 12 Hello by evanescence- Ritsuka saw the words on the wall in blood saying, “Ritsuka I’m back” which made him think his brother might be alive. A line from the song, “soon I’ll wake from this dream” He couldn’t believe it would be Seimei but he couldn’t deny it. Another line, “hello I’m the lie living for you so you can hide” His brother lied to him, he was suppose to be dead but he was still living.

Chapter 13 it’s the fear by within temptation- “It’s the fear, fear of the dark that’s growing inside of me…” Yoji and Natsuo were feeling, “cold” from Seimei’s presence and describe him as “too dark”. “There is no escaping because my fate is part of doom” Yoji and Natsuo were feeling “It’s as if his presence is erasing my presence!” They feel as if Seimei’s presence is going to make them feel horrible, cold, pressured, forced.

Chapter 14 be my escape by Relient K. – “And I’ve been housing all this doubt and insecurity” Ritsuka’s been questioning if Seimei was really dead or alive. He was insecure and doubting his brother. “And all I was trying to do was save my own skin but so were you” Seimei made everyone believe he was dead because we was to be murdered himself. And Ritsuka switched personalities from the trauma.

Chapter 15 Disturbia by Rihanna- “A disease of the mind It can control you It’s too close for comfort” Seimei controls people with words he commands. Ritsuka is being sucked in and Soubi can’t save him. Because of Seimei’s control over everyone. “Ain’t gonna play nice Watch out, you might just go under Better think twice Your train of thought will be altered” Ritsuka is consumed with emotions over Seimei, and Seimei is taking advantage of him. He is making Ritsuka say whether he loves him for who he is and not what he’s done. Ritsuka faltered and Seimei twisted his little brother’s words around.

Chapter 16 reclusion by amberlin- “You’re sick, sick as all the Secrets that you deny” Seimei is lying to Ritsuka. “You’re suffocating me, so very hard to breathe” Seimei tells Ritsuka his definition of love and is telling him that if Ritsuka doesn’t love him, he’ll leave forever. Seimei is, “Sick”.

Chapter 17 the runaways by amberlin- When Ritsuka gave Seimei his answer about his opinion of love “You only stand to break my heart, I can tell it by the way you runaway.” So Seimei turned mean because Ritsuka said he was angry at him.

Chapter 18 leave out all the rest by Linkin Park- “You were so scared but no one would listen cause no one else cared” Soubi was torn between two people. Ritsuka and Seimei and didn’t know whom to be loyal to. “I woke with this fear what am I leaving when I’m done here.” Soubi has to think of what he did and if it’s really what he wanted and to leave in the memories of his past and present. “I’m strong on the surface not all the way through I’ve never been perfect” Soubi caved when Seimei ordered him to break down the window, but he didn’t want to do it. He betrayed Ritsuka, he would never mean to but he couldn’t help it.

Chapter 19 can’t stop falling in love with you by A*Teens- “I just can’t help falling in love with you” Yuiko and Shinomi-sensei can’t help falling in love and worrying about Ritsuka (Yuiko) and Soubi (Shinomi). They think about those boys’ day in and day out.

Chapter 20 stand by rascal flats- “Cause when push comes to shove you taste what you’re made of you might bend, till you break cause it’s all you can take” In the end Soubi and Ritsuka are there for each other no matter what looking at the stars in the middle of the night on new years eve. They’ve been tested but know no boundaries of their friendship they have with each other.

2. Knights of Cydonia by MUSE
In "The Hobbit" there are knights who go to war and team up with there riveals and in the song the same thing happens.
3. Empty walls by Serj Tankian
In this song it he sings about about death and people and villages being burned. And that is what the dragon SMOG did in "The Hobbit"
4.Chop Suey! by System of a Down
This song is about giving up turning back on life and just ending it all before you go on any farther. And that is the way Bilbo felt through out most of his journy.
5. The Funeral by The Band of Horses
This song is about a funeral for a close freind that had died. And this happened to the one of the dwarfs that had died during the great battle.
6. I could have lied By RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS
This song is about a man who could have lied to get out of something he had done. And thats what Bilbo should have done and wanted to do after he had already agreed to going on the quest as a thief.

The Hobbit by Dominic Lee

This is a Fiction book, which is one of the reasons I chose it. But also I enjoyed the other book in the series. Also it has a great story line and the author, J.R.R. Tolkin.
Okay in "The Hobbit" there is well, a hobbit named Bilbo. A hobbit is a smallish type person who are are rather quite folk who mind there own business, but are rather sneaky. In there town of the shire. But one day a Wizard, named Gondola, comes to Bilbo. He asks for his services as a thief, and to go on a quest with him and many dwarfs to get gold from a dragon. But on there journey to the dragons lair they encounter Giant spiders, gargantuan trolls, massive giants, goblins, evil wood elves, huge wolves, gigantic eagles, and one forouchis dragon. But they battle for years for the gold against many others. And in the end, well I can't tell you that.
The significance of the title of the book I chose, Well the title is about the main character they saves every one numerous times, but gets into his fare share of trouble.
If I could ask the author three questions.
1. Where did you come up the idea to write this book.
2. How did you first here about a hobbit.
3. How did you come up with all the different characters.

~Hatchet~

Author: Gary Paulsen
Genre: Young adult novel, Adventure story.

Book Report by: Krysta Purviance

I chose to read the book Hatchet because, some of my friends told me that it was a good book and that i might like to read it. I also think I chose to read Hatchet because it was a survival story and I like to read stories about people that have to rely on what they have on their backs.

Hatchet is a book about a thirteen-year-old boy who's name is Brian Robeson. He discovered his parents are getting a divorce and that his mom is having an affair with another man. Brian's mom sent him to Canada to be with his father for the summer. Before he leaves his mom gives Brian a hatchet to use in the Canadian forests. As Brian was on his way to Canada his pilot let him fly the plane. As Brian is flying the plane the pilot starts to have a heart attack and dies. Which Brian is then forced to land the plane. The plane crashes in to a lake. Brian survived the crash and was the only passenger of the plane. Brian is now stuck in the woods by himself. He uses the hatchet his mother gave him to make a fire, cut wood, and to build a shelter. He has several challenges and then remembers seeing a emergency kit on the plane and decides to attempt and get it. What he find inside leads him to his rescue.

The significance of the title Hatchet is that his mom gave him a hatchet to help him work in the Canadian wilderness with his father. Little did his mom know that the hatchet she gave to Brian would end up saving his life. Brian taught himself how to use the hatchet to start a fire from the sparks and also use it to build a shelter.

IF I could ask Gary Poulsen three questions I would ask him:

1) What was it that inspired you to wright this book?

2) If you were stuck in Brian's position would you chose the hatchet of the riffle?

3) Why have only one person get stranded and not numerous?

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld

The Uglies is a fiction book. It has all kinds of advanced technology such as hoverboards, hovercars, and talking rooms. I was originally interested in this book because of the title and when I read the back of the book it sounded so interesting and made me think of why everyone was separated by the way they looked.

The book Uglies is about a girl named Tally and how she can't wait until September ninth. Not for turning sixteen but for turning pretty. In Tally's world there are two towns; New Pretty Town and Uglyville. Everyone lives in Uglyville until they turn sixteen and get the operation. The operation that changes your life forever and Tally can't wait. She would soon be living in a paradise where it was all fun all the time. But one night while Tally is pulling an ugly prank she meets Shay. Shay is an ugly and all her friends are gone too. But not all of Shay's friends turned pretty. To pass the time Tally and Shay would pull pranks but six nights before their birthday Shay takes one prank too far. That is to run away to the Smoke and never come back and never turn pretty. When Tally says no Shay decides to go without her no matter what. But just in case Tally wants to come later she left her note that only Tally would understand. On the day of the operation instead of being taken to the operation room she is taken to Special Circumstances. Once she reached the room she is told that she can either tell them where Shay and the others are or she can die ugly. Once Tally says she won't tell them where Shay is because she promised Shay not to they take her back to Uglyville where she will live. The next night Tally realizes she also made a promise to Peris, her best friend who is already pretty, that she won't cause any trouble so she can become pretty with him too. So Tally calls the Special Circumstances and gives them the note that Shay gave her.

The Special Circumstances tells Tally that they packed her bags for her and she can leave tonight to find the Smoke. They gave her a pendent necklace to activate when she gets there and then they will know exactly where she is. On Tally's journey she goes through old ruins, falling off a cliff, having all her clothes shredded, and almost being burnt to death. But once she arrives Tally quickly notices that the Smoke is a completely different place that she soon falls in love with along with David. To prove how final her staying is she decided to burn the necklace in doing so she accidentally sets it off. So the next morning everyone is in a scramble fighting their ways out of Special Circumstances hands. When Tally manages to escape she meets up with David who escaped also. Earlier in Tally's arrival she met David's parents who were doctors who did the operation, once they found out that the operation not only changes your appearance but your mind too. It enables the fact to feel any other emotion then happy and bubbly. So Tally and David set out to find his parents and Shay. When they arrive Tally and David come to find David's dad dead and Shay pretty. But they captured the rest and took them all to a secret place called the Rusty Ruins. Once there David's mom finds a cure to get your brain back to the usual self. But Shay being transformed into a pretty wont' do it. So Tally volunteers to turn pretty then they can test it out on her. So in the end, it's Tally and Shay, best friends, one pretty and one ugly.

The significance of the title Uglies is obvious. The whole book is about Tally's journey of wanting to turn pretty. Then learning that it's not what life is all about.

If I could ask Scott Westerfeld three questions about Uglies it would be:

1. What made you think of all the advanced things in this book? Like hoverboards, talking rooms etc.

I would ask this because there were so many things in the book that I couldn't even imagine that he brought to life through the book. So many advanced things that it just makes you wonder if that could ever really happen.

2. How did you ever think to write a book about being ugly and pretty?

I would ask this question because in the book the two are separated so much that it makes you wonder how he feels about being ugly and pretty. And if he feels there really is such a vast difference like it shows in the book.

3. How did you write this book?

I would ask this question finally because the plot Scott Westerfeld used, in my opinion, is very different from the usual kind of story. He builds up to the point then brings in another conflict and another until in the end the girl goes against everything she believed in and becomes pretty. It kept me interested throughout the whole thing.

Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (blog by lili warren)

The book twilight is a romantic-fiction type of book. Its under the topic romantic because its about to people falling in love. Its also a fiction book because some of the main people in the book are vampires (who doesn't like human blood).

I picked this book to read because it seemed everyone was in love with this book and i just wanted to see if i would be in to this book like every one else. another reason is that the movie looked really good an they all ways say the book is better then the movie.

The book twilight is about a high school girl that just moved to forks Washington to live with her dad that she hasn't seen in a long time. When she gets there Bella realized that everyone knew her already since there school was so small. When she got there there was no one in sight. that day she ment a guy name Edward cullens. He was the dreamy guy at forks high school. Edward didnt really have the perfect love at first sight thing but since edward was a vampire he wanted to suck her blood. While the weeks went on he never showed up bella was always waiting for his science partner to come long. he finally came and bella wasnt soo happy. but ended up falling in love with each other.

while they spend there there was one bad vampire that want bella to die cause of her weird blood. Edward tryed protecting her but it wasnt working so they make up a plan to split up eachother. after all that they went to prom but bella has something on her leg from when they were running away from the bad vampire.

1. I wanna no why they wanted the scene to be in forks? i no its because its gloomy but wouldnt vampires live somewhere cooler.
2. what does the apple have o do with cover of the book? i would ask this cause i dont get why theres a apple there.

Tears of a tiger By Sharon M. Draper (blog by nathan forsgren)

1. "Here" by Hello good bye-- I picked this song because the song talks about him liking driving in the car . I linked that with the book because before the accident in the car they were fine together in the car driving. This song was also a very up beat song so the second reason I chose it was because the kids in the car (Andy, Robert, B.j., and Tyrone) were all happy about Robert about to get a scholarship.

2. "Eye of the tiger" by Survivor-- I picked this as a second song because this song talks about how he wants to survive and how it happened so quick. In the book the accident (car accident) happens very quick. The part were he wanted to survive I meant as in he didn't want to and he didn't know he was going to die. Also because it reminded me of basket ball like in the book since Robbert was the basket ball captain.

3. "All I ask of you" from Phantom of the opera-- This song was a composure which I liked because I'm a band nerd. Another reason I picked this song was because it talks about about the darkness and how the phantom (from the opera) said she was going to be OK, jest as Andy did to Robert right after the accident while he was dying. Also I picked this song because it was some what a sad song, which adds to the scene or setting of the book.

4. "Nothing left" by As I lay dying-- I picked this song because it had a dark intensity to it that pertained to the book when Robert died. The other part I picked this song for was as in the song they said as I quote "we can not hide there's nothing left" it relates to in the book when Andy gets depressed when Robert dies that he decides there's nothing left in the world for him anymore.

5. "How you remind me" by Nickelback-- I pick this song because it was about how she reminded him of her in the song. In the book I did this part for when Andy shot himself B.J. thought of it as a punishment for him so Andy's death reminded him of Robbert's death.

6. "Pray!" by Apocalyptica-- this last but not least song I picked was picked for the reason it was borderline a sad song. Also it was a song that meant for pray to him or that is what I felt from it when I heard it. I picked the sad part because in the book it is a pretty sad part when Andy commits suicide because he feels responsible for Robbert's death.

Snitch By Tanner Lupton

I chose the book snitch because one i was over winter break and i wanted something easy to read. But it wasnt just cause of that. when i read the back of the book i related to alot. I know what its like to be snitched on. The book snitch is a fiction book. It was not based on a true story although stuff that happened in the book happens all the time in real life. Kids fight, kids get caught then they either do time or do community service. And thats what josh did. he got into a fight with another student and was sent to court. the judge gave him two choices either jail or go to the humane society. josh chose to go to the society. He was to teach dogs to be well mannored, as well as himself. He completed the course. and was able to change his life around.

  • Questions for Author.
what made you write a book about this kind of topic?
i really liked this book. so would you ever write the same book but make it longer? I just thought that it was a little to short

Do hard things is a non-fiction book. I chose this book because it was recomended to me by my dad, so i picked it up and he was right.

This book is written by two now young adults. In the book they tell stories of there childhood, high school, and post high school. However, the book is not a biography. much of the book is spent talking about "doing hard things". Its about rebelling against the low expectations put on teenagers today. The book talks about how two teenagers decided early they were goin to force themselves to do hard things. Things that would lead them to succes.

It then talks about how this hard work pays off for them. They get invited to any colleges they want, invited to sit in at the senate, and invited to speak all over the country. They wrote the book to try and convince as many teenagers as possible that doing hard things will lead you to anything you want to do. It is also written to parents to not have low expectations on your kids to raise the bar. The book is not something you would expect from a couple teenagers but there logic makes perfect sense and it is a gripping book.

The title of the book tells the whole story "do hard things" and raise your expectations the sole purpose of the book being written.

1.who got this idea started in your head?

2. what does god have to do with all of this?

3. what all has this helped you achieve?

2. I chose to read this book because it is part of a series and it is the 3rd book out of 4. I started reading them this summer when we went on vacation and I needed something to read on the plane and by the beach so I decided to read these.
3. Sun Kissed is about 3 girls, in the first book they met each other at their job. They all used to be Au pairs for a rich family that lives in the Hampton's. Well since two summers ago they have gone their separate ways but still work in New York Hampton area. Mara is working for the Hampton Magazine, she is living with her boy friend on a yacht. (Her boy friend is the brother of the kids she nannied for). She is having fun but seems to have a lot of competition with other girls wanting Ryan her boyfriend. Jacqui is still working for the Perry's still and watching the kids. What she doesn't know is that she is getting another girl to help her which is good in the end because they have to save her bosses marriage and the new girl Shannon helps her with that. Also Jacqui meets these 3 really hot and nice guys that live next to the Perry house. She doesn't know what to do because she doesn't know what guy she likes and all three of them like her. Eliza is working for a fashion company and living at home with her parents still. She has a boy friend Jeremy but she has to question him if he actually loves her. Right after she started her internship she gets fired because of something she did and her parents cancel her credit card so she has to find somewhere else to live. While all this is going on the girls still have time to hang out together and have decisions to make on where they are going to go to college or if they have to do a 5Th year of high school...
4. The title looks like it is a good book to read in the sun on the beach or on the boat. Also the first book of the series was appealing to me because the cover is colorful and looked like a good book.
5. The 3 questions I would ask the author are
1- Did you have personal experiences with these types of situations?
2- Do you have plans of writing more books for the series?
3- Would you ever consider making it a movie?

She Said Yes By Misty Bernall

Book Blog by Sarah Beatty

This book's genre is nonfiction. I havent read nonfiction stories in awhile, but i can tell that this book is the best true story book i've ever read.

I chose this book frankly because I just needed something to read for this book project, and fast. But after reading this appalling story about Cassie Bernall, a victim from the infamous Columbine High School shooting, this was a great book to only accidentally come across.

Many have heard about the tragic Columbine High School shooting, but this book takes a unique, in-depth look into one of the victims lives prior to April 20th, 1999.

Cassie Bernall was one of the victims shot in Columbine, but what makes her story so different from others, is how her beginning was so different from her end. Today, she is labeled as a martyr, but no one would've expected that from her, if they knew what she was like just a few years prior.

She had bad influences, leading her to horrible choices, suicidal thoughts, and violent plans she couldn't even dare to pursue. Becoming even more rebellious and headstrong by the day, she had her parents extremely worried. They seeked out legal attention, and invaded all her possible privacy until she regained their trust. After a church retreat, she was "reborn" into her christian faith, and quickly made a hard u-turn into her new life.
So on April 20th, under a table in the high school library, with a gun to her forehead, she was offered her life or her faith. Then she did what someone who had believed in Christ their whole life wouldn't have dared to do. She said yes.

The significance of this book's title is as crucial and significant as it gets. If she hadn't said yes, it wouldn't be a Christopher Award winning book. It wouldn't be described as "One of the most gripping stories to come out of the shooting at Columbine High School."

If I could ask the author three questions...
1. What was the main reason that drove you to write this book about your daughter?
I was wondering this since she began writing it so soon after Cassie died.
2. While writing this book, did find more closure between you and Cassie?
Throughout the book, you could tell that the author was still stuck in the past, until the end, where she writes a lot more about her relationship with Cassie.
3. Do you regret any event from this story now that you look back at it?
Since Cassie struggled and often had falling-outs with her, since she's gone, I was wondering if she would've acted differently.

1. "Cassie" by Flyleaf
I read the summary of this book to my friend, and she talked about this song by Flyleaf, and how the lyrics sounded just like the story. I had heard it before awhile ago, but never really thought much of it. So it turns out that this song was actually made for Cassie Bernall and her legacy.

2. "You Found Me" by The Fray
This song seemed appropriate to the theme of this book, especially at the part where Cassie finds and restores her relationship with God, after long months of disconnection with her family, and under her friends bad influences. The lyrics say, "Lost and insecure,
you found me" and, "where were you? Just a little late, you found me". This relates to Cassie because she could have been wondering where God had been during her previous dark stages, when she was "lost and insecure".

3. "There For You" by Flyleaf
This is another song by Flyleaf, and its lyrics relate most to what Cassies mom may have felt like when she was struggling to communicate with Cassie. She had probably felt like she wanted to be there for her daughter.

4. "Conspiracy" by Paramore
This songs lyrics convey what Cassie may have been thinking when she was confused about herself while she was in her friends troubled world. "Where can I turn? 'Cause I need something more, Surrounded by uncertainty, I'm so unsure, Tell me why I feel so alone..."

5. "My Heart" by Paramore
The lyrics to this song can portray what was going on in Cassie's mind while she was rediscovering her faith, recognizing that she had done somethings wrong, and that she thought she should give up her heart to God; "I am finding out that maybe I was wrong, That I've fallen down and I can't do this alone..." and "This heart, it beats, beats for only you. My heart is yours."

6. "This Is Your Time" by Michael W. Smith
I personally don't like this song, but it suits Cassies legacy perfectly, since this song was written for her. The first stanza of lyrics in this song sum up the whole purpose of the book, and the highlight of her life; "It was a test we could all hope to pass, But none of us would want to take. Faced with the choice to deny God to live, For her, there was one choice to make."

Hatchet By Gary Paulsen

BLOG BY:
LOGAN GRINDY

GENRE: Fiction - Adventure

I was having trouble finding a novel to read for my independent reading project so i asked my mom for help because she has read many books. I told her that i wanted to read a book about adventure that will always keep me on my toes. I love reading books that make me want to keep reading on to find out what happens next. She instantly suggested that i read Hatchet. When my mom told me that it was by Gary Paulsen i was sold. Gary Paulsen is the author of one of my favorite books, Brian's Hunt, so i knew it would be smart decision. Also, Hatchet is a Newbery Honor award-winning book so i knew i would not be disappointed.

After surviving a plane crash into a lake in the middle of the woods, Brian Robeson is lost and alone in the Canadian wilderness. The plane he was flying to visit his father lies at the bottom of the lake with a dead pilot inside of it. When a search plane flies over Brian and doesn't notice him, Brian starts to get severely depressed. However, after failing at attempting suicide Brian realizes that feeling sorry for himself doesn't work. He now realizes what he must do to survive.

The only tool Brian has is a hatchet his mother had given him before he had left on the plane. Using this tool he must learn to provide food and shelter for himself. Considering that he has no background survival skills this could be a tough task. Overcoming his often troublesome flashbacks of his parents divorce is a challenge for Brian, but as time goes on the less it hurts him. Brian encounters way more setbacks and frustrations than successes while coming up with survival tactics. Survival will not be easy for Brian. Luckily, he has great perserverance and will do anything it takes to survive.

The title "hatchet" has great significance. In the beginning of the story, Brian's mother gives him a hatchet to take on his visit. However, the hatchet becomes Brian's greatest survival tool. Without the hatchet he would have never been able to survive. Brian uses his hatchet to gather materials to build his shelter as well as food for himself to eat. Also, Brian uses the hatchet as a type of weapon to protect himself. Most importantly, towards the end of the book Brian builds a raft and floats over to where the back half of the plane is sticking out of the water. This is because he remembered the pilot mentioning something about keeping a survival kit in the plane. Brian uses his hatchet to cut through the steel to get inside the plane because he could not get in the plane using just his bare hands. Inside the plane he finds the survival kit. Inside this survival kit he finds a transmitter and he puts out a rescue signal. He is rescued the next day by a man who had recieved the signal. Therefore, the hatchet is the reason that Brian was able to be rescued.

I would ask Gary Paulsen:

"Do you enjoy the wilderness?"

I was wondering this because throughout the story such great detail was used to decribe things that Brian encountered while he was in the wild. I wondered if you had spent time in the wilderness while you were growing up as well because i could tell from reading the book you have a lot of knowledge about the wilderness.

"Were you ever put in a situation where you were required to use survival skills?"

Throughout the story Brian kept using skills and tactics that were extremely clever. I knew that I would never have been able to come up with the ideas that Brian had. I wondered if you were writing about some of the survival skills that you had learned growing up and if you had used them at a point in your life.

"Did your parents divorce when you were a child?"

I noticed that in the book you always expressed Brian's feelings about his parent's divorce. The feelings he felt were so deep and vivid that it seemed as if you had experienced the same type of thing during your childhood. I was wondering if maybe you had those same feelings when you were Brian's age.

Eldest is a fiction book

I chose this book because I love fiction books and i read the first book and loved it.

First Eragon is not the only main character in this book. His cousin is also a main part of this book. Eragon  changes so much in this book by the end his own cousin cant tell if it is even him. He is changed during an ancient ceremony of the elves. In the end of the book there is a huge surprise in an epic battle.

Roran (Eragon's cousin) proposes to his love Katrina. and the empire comes to his town to seize Roran for false charges. He and the rest of the towns folk fortify there town to defend from the empire. The town holds up for a while until they were betrayed by Sloan the butcher.
The evil Rasac capture Katrina and Roran is injured. He vows to capture Katrina back.

Eldest is the name of the other dragon in the ending of the book.

Three questions I would ask the author  would be what was your inspiration, why did you decide to bring Roran into the book again, and why did you have the king of the Varden die.

Rhymes with Witches By: Sabrina Fields

Rhymes with Witches by: Lauren Myracle is about a typical high school. You have the cliques. This one clique in particular is called the Bitches (what kind of name is that?). Jane was noticed by this group of girls, she was to be the new freshman (there was a girl from every grade in the group). I choose this book because it was given to me last year by a friend who's mom gave it to her. I hadn't touched the book since I put it on the shelf. I had read all the books on my shelf and decided to use it for my book project. The Bitches were challenging all that Jane believed in, but once you were in you were in for life. You couldn't back out or you went to the very lowest possible end of the high school society. I think that the title is significant because the Bitches acted like witches. I won't tell you how.

If I could ask the author 3 questions about the book I would ask her:

  1. How she came up with a book like this?

  2. Were the characters inspired by anyone that she knew?

  3. Will there ever be a sequel?

Fablehaven by Derek Hood

Fablehaven is a secret nature preserve protecting the beings of myth and legend from the outside world. The current caretaker, Stan Sorenson, describes it as "a refuge for mystical creatures". Those who live in this large sanctuary, mortal and magical, must Odey by a treaty of rules. The most common rules are focused upon "the law of the harvest" or "the law of retribution" meaning, you reap what you sow. If the law of retribution is broken, it allows for retaliation, which is essentially what drives the plot through the book.

1 Why did the witch in the story wan to preserve so badly?
2 If Nathan did not open the window would the mounters o gotten in ?
3 Why was the grandma in the story a chicken for the first 2 chapters?
